Join Sara this December evening to celebrate the marking of the winter solstice. This special gathering will consist of meditation, journaling, song, movement, sound and relaxation. The winter solstice is a celestial event that marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. It typically occurs around December 21st and heralds the official start of winter. This astronomical occurrence happens when one of the Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the sun, resulting in the least amount of daylight for that hemisphere. What you can expect: A Winter Solstice Mandala Song, sound and meditation A Winter slow flow yoga sequence Breathwork, journaling and restorative yoga Culturally and historically, the winter solstice holds immense significance. Across various traditions and cultures, it's been celebrated as a time of rebirth, renewal, and the gradual return of light. Many ancient civilizations marked this celestial event with festivals, rituals, and ceremonies to honor the changing seasons and the promise of longer days ahead. In modern times, the winter solstice continues to be celebrated in various ways. The winter solstice, also called Yule, is celebrated as a time of introspection, connecting with nature, and honoring the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The winter solstice serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of finding balance amidst the darkness and the promise of light returning. It symbolizes hope, the renewal of life, and the beginning of a new cycle—an eternal dance between light and darkness that transcends time and culture. Please bring your journal and pen. Come dressed for a slow practice and bring your cozy sweater for a comforting and nourishing restorative practice.
